Want to know how to start a workout plan…and then actually stick to it?
Well, we all know that nutrition is literally half the battle when it comes to losing weight. (Maybe even more than half!)
It’s so important to establish that solid foundation BEFORE you look to cranking out sweat inducing workouts in the gym.
Well, no matter the intensity, length, or frequency of your workouts, if you are eating junky, greasy, processed food- you are very nearly wasting your workouts. Your body has to work that much harder to burn and eliminate those types of foods than it does clean, whole ingredients. Why not start with the perfect base, so that your workouts MEAN MORE? Why not allow yourself a great foundation to build off of?
If you need help with cleaner eating, check out the Kickstart 10 Challenge: you can TOTALLY do 10 days to kickstart your healthy!
Once you have your foundation of nutrition, it’s time to dial in your workout plan.
There are many ways to approach exercise, but the key to success is finding a program you can stick to.
In order to actually stick to your workout, you’ve got to choose one that is realistic for where you are at in your life. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula for workouts. While some may LOVE running, others absolutely dread it.
You’ve got to find something that is actually going to vibe with…well, your vibe!
Look- if you really don’t have an hour and a half to spend it the gym, let’s face it. You’re not going to stay consistent with that kind of commitment.
Really think about how much time you can commit.
There are amazing 30 minute workouts out there, including my Home Strength Series workouts that get you in, get you sweating and get you out in no time.
If that’s the kind of time you really have in your day…don’t beat yourself up or think you’ll never be able to lose weight. It’s important to not look at what others are doing, and focus on what YOU can do.
YOUR ENJOYMENT MATTERS:
I’m going to be honest here. I HATE cardio. Like…loathe it.
I have Cystic Fibrosis and when I do cardio, I cough extremely hard, and while this may be good for me to get up all the junk in my lungs that could potentially make me sick, IT HURTS.
So I’ve developed an utter hatred of all things cardio. Not only that, but with my messed up ankle, I truly cannot run because my right ankle doesn’t flex, so any and all running is more like limping and it wears on my hip.
Now, does that mean I eliminate cardio altogether because I don’t like it?
Well…no. I know it’s good for me.
But what’s the happy medium?
I love swimming. Low impact and doesn’t make my lungs suffer. So I swim often for my cardio.
I also do pretty good on an elliptical, though it’s boring to me so I don’t plug it in unless I am just short on time.
Another that I choose is cycling. Low impact on the ankle, and less killer on my lungs than a HIIT workout, for instance.
So I use the flywheel bikes at the gym, or if the weather is good…I’m on the road and I LOVE IT.
The point here?
Pick a workout that you find you enjoy. If you FEEL GOOD doing it, you’ll stick to it.
Aren’t a fan of lifting in the gym, but loooove those group classes?
Feel like a whole new woman when you Zumba or Pole?? Who CARES what others think. GO FOR IT!
Whatever will keep you coming back, even if that means you are rotating several options to keep yourself excited.
YOUR MINDSET MATTERS:
This point probably could’ve been first, it’s that important.
The bottom line is if you walk into your workout dreading it, telling yourself you can’t do it…you’ll never get better…then that is EXACTLY what will happen.
The power of positive thinking is just that…POWERFUL. If you don’t feel like working out, or starting a new workout plan but you know you need to, I encourage you. Promise yourself you’ll try one thing, with abandon.
Go out, dedicate yourself to having fun. And watch- YOU WILL. It’s all about the mindset.
A lot of times, just being around a group of people that have the same goals as you and are doing the same workout is so empowering, it doesn’t MATTER what the workout is!
That’s why I created the online workout group, ROCKIN’ BODY Society, for instance. We do live workouts every week together, so it gives that group fitness atmosphere.
Not to mention I get to train you live, help you with modifications and motivate you!
It’s a BLAST, and the rest of the time we are rocking our quarterly challenges together, eating from the Love Bug Fitness Flexible Meal Plan System, and spreading love, encouragement, and inspiration every single day.
