On more of a serious note this week, we’re going to be talking about taking care of ourselves as Key #4 in unleashing our Inner Badass this year.
Last week we touched on giving of yourself without expecting anything in return. It feels GOOD to give selflessly. But there is one caveat to that…give to others, but not at the expense of yourself.
For the longest time I actually gave and gave until my own well ran dry. I wasn’t just on the back-burner…I was that forgotten pan way in the dark recesses of your lowest cabinet, out of sight…and completely out of mind.
I don’t even know how I had the resources to keep giving, but I gave so much, and cared so much what others thought about me that I literally lived my life for the people around me and totally lost who I even was. It was a rough road back trying to find myself, that’s for sure.
I wouldn’t wish that one ANYONE. So that’s why Inner Badass Key #4 is:
LEARN TO PUT YOURSELF FIRST, SOMETIMES.
You have to give to others, but there must be limits. Too much giving without regard to your health can absolutely drain you, and that’s never good for anyone in your life- including you.
So be selfish with some of your time. You don’t have to go MIA…just make sure to schedule in some personal hours on your calendar, whether that be a new hobby, a relaxing yoga session, a hot epsom salt bath, meditation in the morning, or anything that refuels you and replenishes YOUR soul.
Place more focus on rejuvenation and you’ll be happier and more effective during the day. Your family, your kids, whoever-they’ll understand! In fact, with as positive and confident as it’ll make you, they’ll be glad you did.
