Motivation Monday: Is This About THEM? Or Is It About YOU?

Here on #motivationmonday, I always try to think of something, some quote or some phrase, that will send motivation into people like a shot of caffeine right to the veins.

Well, tell you the truth, unless you have an IV drip from Starbucks, the jolt you’re looking for doesn’t really come from a post, a quote, or some phrase that lights you up and makes you “on fire” to be healthy.

So this week, instead of attempting to light any fires…I think I’ll take a new direction and get a little real, a little raw.

I’m gonna ask some real questions, ones that make you take a hard look in the mirror or the flip side of your iCamera.

Hard questions, but one that dig right to the ROOT of motivation itself.

Questions that clean up the clutter around getting healthy and drive straight to the heart of WHY you want to get healthy in the first place.

Questions that help you keep that motivation long after the “feeling” of being motivated passes.

Because, let’s be real here. It will pass and come back and pass again.

First and foremost, I want you to ask yourself:

WHY ARE YOU WANTING TO GET HEALTHY AND STRONG?

Be honest. Get right to the emotional reason.

Mine is so that I can feel like a bad ass. So I can feel STRONG, so I can look in the mirror and love what I see.

So that I can be healthy so that I can live long enough to dance with my son at his wedding.

So that I can sit on the porch with my husband when I’m old and wrinkly and laugh at the young kids going by.

So that I NEVER have to be one of those CF patients that is put on the lung transplant list.

So that I never have to be a statistic.

That’s my real and raw reasons.

And those are ALL for me or my family.

They aren’t for you, they aren’t for some Instagram follower to “like” me, they don’t come with the underlying need for someone else to approve.

They are for ME and the ones I love, period.

So figure out your REASON and write it down.

THEN…

I want you to take inventory of what you FOCUS on.

Do you focus on looking like someone else?

Do you focus on what other people THINK of you?

Do you focus on quick fixes, some way to get your healthy body FAST and finding short cuts??

Do you focus on doing things YOUR way and then getting flustered by anyone who tries to help you or keep you accountable?

Do you focus on how much you miss shitty food and how “good” that shitty food made you feel?

Do you focus on everything you CAN’T have once you start to eat healthy and workout?

Do you focus on how HARD it feels like it is when you first begin?

Do you focus on how big your goal is to the point where it feels like you could NEVER accomplish it?

OR….

Do you focus on taking small actions that will achieve your WHY, your deep reason for doing the healthy living thing?

Do you focus on how GOOD the healthy food is making you feel?

Do you focus on how AMAZING CONFIDENCE FEELS, with as little as a week under your belt of building healthy habits?

Do you focus on the changes you see in the mirror and tell yourself POSITIVE compliments about your body?

Do you focus on lifting others up that are getting healthy just like you so that THEY can also feel positive about themselves?

Do you focus on LOVING the work you are putting in?

Do you focus on being PROUD of the strength you are gaining?

Do you focus on CELEBRATING yourself and the little victories as you go along?

Those are real, raw questions you should ask yourself. You don’t have to answer them to anyone else but yourself.

The bottom line, however, is…

IF YOU FOCUS ON THE NEGATIVE, ALL YOU’LL GET IS THE NEGATIVE.

but…

IF YOU FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE, YOUR ENTIRE OUTLOOK ON LIFE WILL CHANGE.

It doesn’t matter what training program you do, they ALL work if you work them.

It doesn’t matter HOW healthy you eat.

It doesn’t matter WHICH trainer you choose.

YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK FOR IT TO WORK.

AND YOU HAVE TO LOVE THE WORK YOU DO IN ORDER TO WANT TO KEEP DOING IT.

It’s not that trainer’s fault if you quit when it feels hard.

It’s not the healthy food’s fault if you can’t stop eating Twinkies.

It’s not the fit girl on Instagram’s fault if your ACTIONS don’t reflect the body or mindset that you want.

So I encourage you today…

1- TAKE A HARD LOOK AT YOUR FOCUS AND YOUR WHY.

Make your reason why you want to be healthy FOR YOU AND YOU ONLY. Make sure you dig deep and think of how GREAT it will FEEL to transform, not just your body. No, this was never about only your body.

THINK OF HOW GOOD IT WILL FEEL TO FEEL GOOD AGAIN.

Then…

2- ONLY ALIGN YOURSELF WITH POSITIVITY.

Inside and outside. Clear your mind of negatives and bad’s and can’ts. Clear your space of others that bring you down.

3- CELEBRATE your positives.

Every day! What was one good thing about the day before? Pat yourself on the back for that and be PROUD.

4- REACH OUT to others that are striving toward healthy. Befriend them.

Not only does having a partner in healthy help you….helping THEM helps you.

5- REJOICE in other people’s successes.

Kinda like #4….lifting others UP makes you feel lifted up. But that’s not all…

6- REJOICE in your own successes.

CELEBRATE your own positives. Take action, focus on the good you did. And be proud. Don’t ever focus on what you “haven’t done”. Only use those obstacles as opportunities and turn the negatives into positives.

Getting healthy and fit is 80% an overcoming of our mental blocks.

But taking those 6 actions above KNOCKS out the need for motivation and replaces it with a DEEP DESIRE TO JUST

BE BETTER,

FEEL STRONGER

AND LIVE HAPPIER.

And that, my Love Bugs, is all the motivation you’ll ever need.
